What brings women to MLH?
Abuse transcends culture, gender and socio-economic background. The women who utilize the Margaret Laurence House Programs come to us from a variety of situations. Some of the situations that have brought women to Margaret Laurence House in the past include:
- fleeing from other communities, cities or countries to maintain their safety from their partner
- financial abuse
- sexual abuse
- abuse of children
- emotional and psychological abuse
- physical abuse
- fear of the use of weapons
- abuse of pets
- destruction of property
- isolation from family members, friends, supports, or religious communities
- a sponsorship breakdown after arriving in Canada
